iMakeupMirror Review - iPhone4 App

This is an independent review by Andrea M. "I was introduced to the iMakeupMirror application today for my iPhone4 and I have to say that I haven't found an app like this one since owning my iPhone. The iMakeupMirror illuminates the screen and enables me to see myself even in the darkest of clubs, bathrooms, or restaurants. As a busy writer who is involved in several local activities I find myself running from place to place when I'm not typing away. From the laptop, to the gym, to a meeting with clients; sometimes I literally pack a bag in the morning and live out of it all day.

This is where the iMakeupMirror has come in handy on numerous occasions. Instead of remembering to pack an extra mirror or compact in my bag that could potentially shatter or break and make a dusty mess in my purse, I simply switch to this app on my phone when a mirror isn't in sight and I need to check myself out. We all know how embarrassing it could be to meet a friend or client after lunch and realize that there's something in your teeth. With this application I don't have to worry about that ever again. I can take a look after every meal when I'm on the go.

I also travel a lot so the iMakeupMirror has been useful when I'm on the plane or waiting for a cab. If you've ever had to go from the airport to a meeting whether it's business or pleasure you want to look your best. The lines are often long for bathrooms, and your make-up bag is tucked away in your suitcase because of TSA regulations. This is when the iMakeupMirror saves the day. You can simply whip it out, do a touch up, smooth fly away hairs, or check your smile before you go. I know that I have had a powder compact burst in my bag a time or two and the experience is messy, costly and overall just a pain. This application completely eliminates the risk of that small tragedy happening.

Excessive clutter in my bag is another reason I love the iMakeupMirror. I like to carry a small bag whenever possible so having this on my phone eliminates the need to try to fit in a separate mirror. If I do carry a large bag and have to carry several items such as a phone, compact, lipstick, wallet, etc., they seem to get lost in the bottom. Having my phone do double duty in this department is great for eliminating another item to clutter the bottom of my bag.

I've also used the iMakeupMirror in a dark club and it worked wonderfully. I was able to reapply lip-gloss without smearing it everywhere and I didn't have to wait in line to use the bathroom mirror. Plus, I was able to carry a sexy little clutch because the only mirror I needed was already in my phone. On a scale from 1-10 on usefulness I'd give this app a 9. It's incredibly handy, and you don't necessarily look like you're looking in a mirror while you're using it (which I love). People assume you're just looking at your phone. If you haven't tried it, please do. Your face will thank you."

From BeautyDebutante - Red Hot Lips for Red Hot Months with Boots No. 7 Lip Glace, Wild Volume Lipstick

TC NOTE: This is a great article!

Click Here to signup for fabulous Daily BeautyDebutante Newsletter.

There are a lot of “rules” for makeup.
Do not use mascara longer than for 3 months
Do not blow on your brushes
Do not match your eyeshadow color to your shirt
Red lips are for winter….

Oh hey…wait. Red lips don’t have to be for winter (and for that matter you can match your eyeshadow to your shirt if you want)! In fact, I recently came across a few lip products from Boots that are perfect for the Summer and Fall months.

Now don’t freak out because I’m suggesting you wear red lips if you never ever wear red lips. I’m just putting it out there that the nude lip is great, but sometimes a red lip will knock your socks off. Think of it. For years women wore mostly red lips all year long. Why has red now been relegated to cold months? Can’t we all have a little fun in the sun and have saucy red lips to boot? Yes we can!

Here are some tips for keeping red lips looking bright and fresh even in the warmer months.

Create a perfect canvas. Make sure your skin looks beautiful. You can use foundation, tinted moisturizer or powder, just try not to have a too heavy/mask like appearance. Red lips will only intensify the heaviness of your foundation.

Blush sparingly or lightly. When wearing red lips, no matter the season, your blush should not fight for attention with your red lips. That means create a soft natural flush with a baby pink blush or a nude blush or sheer matte bronzer. You just want the suggestion of color in your cheeks and you want people to focus on your lips.

Keep the eyes minimal. A sheer wash of shell pink, taupe, apricot, champagne or golden tan is all you need for your eyes. Want something a little more dramatic without looking like a model from a 1980’s Robert Palmer Video?

Try a thin line of black liquid liner (Or gel or cake liner) and add a little wing on the end – such as Boots No7 Liquid Eye Liner – Black. This Marilyn Monroe-esque look is not only classic it helps frame your eyes and give them a sultry look. Winged liner can be tricky. Practice makes perfect!

image from www.pinksith.com

Lastly you want to finish your eye with either a thin coating of lengthening mascara

OK. So now that you have gotten the basics down here are 3 very different options from Boots that you can use to create a red lip that looks great for you.

image from www.us.boots.com

1. Boots No. 7 Wild Volume Lipstick in Forever Cherry. $9.99 This opaque long lasting lipstick promises to plum up your lips with Pea Extract and Senna Extract. I have no idea if it works because my lips are pretty full as it is…not bragging. just a fact…and honestly I think if you have really thin lips nothing will give you Angela Jolie like lips without the help of Plastic surgery. But back to the lipstick. This one is not for the faint of heart.

This almost electric cherry color lipstick smoothes on effortlessly and seems to fill in tiny lines in my lips…giving the appearance of my lips looking fuller.

Now as you can see this is a BRIGHT color so if you are a bit more timid with reds you can blot the lipstick after application and then apply a sheer gloss on top….for example like the one I’m going to feature next!

image from www.us.boots.com

2. Boots No7 Lip Glace – Cherry Kiss $7.49 The sheer shiny gloss is an amazing addition to satin or matte lipsticks. It will give your lips that extra shine and depth, thanks to the micro shimmers in the gloss. The gloss is not sticky and the shimmer isn’t gritty.

The clear and soft silicone tip allow for ease of application as well as keeping the product relatively clean. I love the long thin design of the tube and with the sturdy screw on cap and crimp-less tube design I don’t have to worry about it exploding in my purse or pocket.

The color I use is Cherry Kiss and it provides a very sheer layer of color. Of course you can wear this alone for a very sweet and demure hint of red lip, but I really prefer it over a lipstick. I apply a little dab in the center of my bottom lip and spread it out to create the look of a fuller lip and volume. With most non sticky glosses, this one fades after a few hours of wear, but it’s relatively easy to reapply…even without a mirror. However if you are looking for a gloss and go color then look no further than…

3. Boots Botanics Lip Gloss in Cherry. $7.99 This moisturizing shiny gloss has just enough pigment to wear alone for a sweet red lip. Packed with coconut extract to help moisturize your lips, this gloss wears well and never leaves that dreaded white ring or chapped lips in its wake. I like that it’s not sticky and lasts a decent amount of time before I have to reapply.

The soft doe foot applicator also makes application a snap. The cherry color is perfect for that just bitten look that so many people love to emulate (Thanks Twilight!) and it also is perfectly suitable for the warmer months. What’s best is that this gloss is an excellent introduction to red lips for those n00bs out there (That’s geek speak for newbies)!

It’s sheer enough to not overpower, but pigmented enough that people see a red lip. I think this is my favorite product of all three. I reach for this one time and time again.

So there you have it. Three ways to wear red lips in the heat and still be ravishing and you won’t break any rules!

Boots products can be purchased in the US at in person at Target Stores or online when you Shop drugstore.com’s Beauty and Fragrance Category!

From BeautyDebutante - Motives 2010 Summer Trend Eyeshadow Palette: Social Butterfly

iMakeupMirror supports BeautyDebutante for our website - click here.

This is from BeautyDebutante signup for their daily newsletter - click here.

Hello again! It’s Ivy from Jeweled Thumb. I was recently sent a few items from Motives Cosmetics Summer 2010 Collection and today I’ll be reviewing the Social Butterfly Trend Kit. All of these eyeshadows are shades in Motives Cosmetics regular line of shades, which generally retail in individual compacts for $12 – but for summer, Motives Cosmetics is offering 3 different trend palettes containing 5 eyeshadows and a bottle of their Mine Eau de Parfum for $49.95.

image from Motives Cosmetics

I had never heard of the Motives Cosmetics line before so I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was very impressed with the quality of the eyeshadows.

Social Butterfly contains “earth-tones and glamorous gold with just enough sparkle” according to the Motives website and features the following shades: Bronze Beauty, Green Tea, Sunkissed, Hazelnut, Goddess. Personally, the only thing missing from this palette for me was a highlight shade (since I’m quite pale and cool-toned, I can’t get away with using any sort of golds on the brow bone).

The Social Butterfly palette contains 2 Pearlized (Bronze Beauty, Sunkissed), 2 Shimmer (Green Tea, Hazelnut) and 1 Glitter (Goddess) shade as described on the Motives Cosmetics website. I found most of the colors easy to work with especially Bronze Beauty (copper) and Sunkissed (peachy gold) which went on like butter and were super pigmented and metallic. Green Tea (goldish khaki) and Hazelnut (brown infused with gold shimmer) were not quite as soft but were easily built up and I’d say of medium pigment and slightly less metallic than the Pearlized shades. The only one I wasn’t a fan of was Goddess, aptly named as a glitter shade, was basically gold glitter in a very light gold base.

individual pans and empty palette

The palette also contains 2 double-ended sponge tip applicators and a wide mirror for travel (I personally used my own brushes for application). I like the Motives logo on the outside of the palette and a window to view the shades.

outside of the filled palette

I tested the shadows out and they lasted through my 9+ hour work day and out in the Maryland humidity with a primer. Here’s a quick eye of the day that I did using Sunkissed and Hazelnut. The shadows blended easily and retained their pigment and metallic quality throughout the day.

Motives Eyeshadow on

All in all, I was quite impressed with the shades I tested, and would recommend the Motives palette for those with a warm complexion!

Motives Cosmetics eyeshadows are Gluten Free, Paraben Free, fragrance and oil free and are not tested on animals. The full range, including the Summer Trend Kits can be purchased at the Motives Cosmetics website.

From BeautyDebutante - Skincare Review: Trilogy Certified Organic Rosehip Oil

For more on iMakeupMirror - http://imakeupmirror.com

From the BeautyDebutante blog - signup at http://beautydebutante.com

A little while ago I was sent some Trilogy Certified Organic Rosehip Oil from Beautorium.com. to test. I decided to do a little research into this product before I put it on my face.

First of all Beautorium.com is a site where you can do one stop shopping for your entire natural and organic beauty needs. They have a ton of products to choose from and the site is mapped out very well. Each product comes with a wealth of information from ingredients to how to use to its organic certification and more. I like the upfront information and the ease of searching.

OK. Where does Rosehip oil come from? Well Rose Hips of course! You have probably hear of rose hip tea and rose hip enhanced vitamin c pills…well rose hips are the seed pod left after all the rose petals fall off the flower. The oil from rose hips, often called rosa mosqueta, is very nutritious. It is unique among vegetable oils in containing retinol (Vitamin A), and is also high in vitamin C. Rose hip seed oil is high in the essential fatty acids – linoleic acid or omega-6, and linolenic acid or omega-3. It is commonly used in skin care products.

Rose hip oil is used for a variety of skin conditions such as acne, eczema, sun burnt skin, wrinkles and used to heal scarring and diminish photo-aging. Since the rosehip oil contains Vitamin A it can help delay the effects of skin aging and assist with cell regeneration and promote collagen and elastin levels. Rosehip oil also contains a high amount of essential fatty acids and Vitamin E, which further promotes healthy skin.

The Trilogy Certified Organic Rosehip Oil I received is very gentle on the skin and it can be used undiluted (unlike some other essential oils) on the skin with little to no adverse reaction.. It can also be added to lotions, creams, and shampoos. This Trilogy Certified Organic Rosehip Oil easily absorbs into the skin and does not leave behind a greasy residue.

When I applied directly to the skin on my face, I used my fingertips to massage it in until it is completely absorbed. I did this twice a day for a month on my face but made sure to use sunscreen every day on top of the oil.

The results?
Well I certainly had softer skin, but I found that I experienced a few break outs while using the oil. That’s because I have VERY oily skin and I think this oil may have clogged my pores a bit, however, have very acne prone skin and I break out just typing the word ‘Acne’…whoops. There’s another pimple!…so I cannot say for sure it was the Trilogy Certified Organic Rosehip Oil that broke out my skin. I did not notice a significant decrease in old acne scars, but I did notice that my face seemed to glow a bit more. Perhaps it was the extra hydration for my skin…because even if you have oily skin, you can still have dehydrated oily skin. Ugh. Trust me. It can happen. The skin on my face felt more balanced be the end of the day and I didn’t feel like I was as much of an oily mess as I am used to being. Perhaps because my skin was getting essential fatty acids it didn’t feel the need to produce as much oil as it normally does.

What I really liked about Trilogy Certified Organic Rosehip Oil is that it comes in a small dark glass colored bottle. This helps keep light off the product which can cause the relatively short shelf life of rosehip oil to degrade even more. I also really like the little eye dropper that is in the cap. I can get a measured amount for each application and I don’t have to introduce any stray bacteria or other debris from my fingers and hands into the Trilogy bottle. This means I can extend the purity of the product and make sure that I don’t turn the oil rancid by the mere act of dispensing the product. It is recommended that most rosehip oil is kept refrigerated, but the documentation that came with this bottle didn’t mention that.

The Trilogy Certified Organic Rosehip Oil bottle holds 20 ml / .67 fl oz. that’s quite a lot when you only need a couple of drops for your face, so I started to add it to my regular lotion when I apply it at night and I started to massage some into my cuticles every night as well. Because I don’t want to run the risk of the oil turning rancid if I add it to a big bottle of lotion, I pump out some lotion into my hand and add a few drops of Trilogy Certified Organic Rosehip Oil to the product and mix it together for that one time usage. Basically I add it when I need it.

So far the results have been good. While I haven’t used it long enough to see marked improvement, I do like the fact that my skin feels softer and looks better overall. I also like the fact that I’m not adding any unnecessary chemicals or pesticides to my skin. Trilogy products contain 100% natural active ingredients. The rosehip oil is certified organic by Bio-Gro of New Zealand. This product contains no parabens, petrochemicals, PEGs, pesticides, synthetic colors or fragrances, GMOs , or harsh surfactants. Since the product is certified organic I can feel safe using it. If I ever do run out, and trust me a small bottle goes a long way, I’ll be sure to buy some more. This is a great addition to my daily beauty ritual.

You can purchase a 20ml bottle of Trilogy Certified Organic Rosehip Oil for $20 USD from beautorium.com
