From BeautyDebutante - Motives 2010 Summer Trend Eyeshadow Palette: Social Butterfly

iMakeupMirror supports BeautyDebutante for our website - click here.

This is from BeautyDebutante signup for their daily newsletter - click here.

Hello again! It’s Ivy from Jeweled Thumb. I was recently sent a few items from Motives Cosmetics Summer 2010 Collection and today I’ll be reviewing the Social Butterfly Trend Kit. All of these eyeshadows are shades in Motives Cosmetics regular line of shades, which generally retail in individual compacts for $12 – but for summer, Motives Cosmetics is offering 3 different trend palettes containing 5 eyeshadows and a bottle of their Mine Eau de Parfum for $49.95.

image from Motives Cosmetics

I had never heard of the Motives Cosmetics line before so I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was very impressed with the quality of the eyeshadows.

Social Butterfly contains “earth-tones and glamorous gold with just enough sparkle” according to the Motives website and features the following shades: Bronze Beauty, Green Tea, Sunkissed, Hazelnut, Goddess. Personally, the only thing missing from this palette for me was a highlight shade (since I’m quite pale and cool-toned, I can’t get away with using any sort of golds on the brow bone).

The Social Butterfly palette contains 2 Pearlized (Bronze Beauty, Sunkissed), 2 Shimmer (Green Tea, Hazelnut) and 1 Glitter (Goddess) shade as described on the Motives Cosmetics website. I found most of the colors easy to work with especially Bronze Beauty (copper) and Sunkissed (peachy gold) which went on like butter and were super pigmented and metallic. Green Tea (goldish khaki) and Hazelnut (brown infused with gold shimmer) were not quite as soft but were easily built up and I’d say of medium pigment and slightly less metallic than the Pearlized shades. The only one I wasn’t a fan of was Goddess, aptly named as a glitter shade, was basically gold glitter in a very light gold base.

The palette also contains 2 double-ended sponge tip applicators and a wide mirror for travel (I personally used my own brushes for application). I like the Motives logo on the outside of the palette and a window to view the shades.

I tested the shadows out and they lasted through my 9+ hour work day and out in the Maryland humidity with a primer. Here’s a quick eye of the day that I did using Sunkissed and Hazelnut. The shadows blended easily and retained their pigment and metallic quality throughout the day.

All in all, I was quite impressed with the shades I tested, and would recommend the Motives palette for those with a warm complexion!

Motives Cosmetics eyeshadows are Gluten Free, Paraben Free, fragrance and oil free and are not tested on animals. The full range, including the Summer Trend Kits can be purchased at the Motives Cosmetics website.

From BeautyDebutante - Skincare Review: Trilogy Certified Organic Rosehip Oil

For more on iMakeupMirror - http://imakeupmirror.com

From the BeautyDebutante blog - signup at http://beautydebutante.com

A little while ago I was sent some Trilogy Certified Organic Rosehip Oil from Beautorium.com. to test. I decided to do a little research into this product before I put it on my face.

First of all Beautorium.com is a site where you can do one stop shopping for your entire natural and organic beauty needs. They have a ton of products to choose from and the site is mapped out very well. Each product comes with a wealth of information from ingredients to how to use to its organic certification and more. I like the upfront information and the ease of searching.

OK. Where does Rosehip oil come from? Well Rose Hips of course! You have probably hear of rose hip tea and rose hip enhanced vitamin c pills…well rose hips are the seed pod left after all the rose petals fall off the flower. The oil from rose hips, often called rosa mosqueta, is very nutritious. It is unique among vegetable oils in containing retinol (Vitamin A), and is also high in vitamin C. Rose hip seed oil is high in the essential fatty acids – linoleic acid or omega-6, and linolenic acid or omega-3. It is commonly used in skin care products.

Rose hip oil is used for a variety of skin conditions such as acne, eczema, sun burnt skin, wrinkles and used to heal scarring and diminish photo-aging. Since the rosehip oil contains Vitamin A it can help delay the effects of skin aging and assist with cell regeneration and promote collagen and elastin levels. Rosehip oil also contains a high amount of essential fatty acids and Vitamin E, which further promotes healthy skin.

The Trilogy Certified Organic Rosehip Oil I received is very gentle on the skin and it can be used undiluted (unlike some other essential oils) on the skin with little to no adverse reaction.. It can also be added to lotions, creams, and shampoos. This Trilogy Certified Organic Rosehip Oil easily absorbs into the skin and does not leave behind a greasy residue.

When I applied directly to the skin on my face, I used my fingertips to massage it in until it is completely absorbed. I did this twice a day for a month on my face but made sure to use sunscreen every day on top of the oil.

The results?
Well I certainly had softer skin, but I found that I experienced a few break outs while using the oil. That’s because I have VERY oily skin and I think this oil may have clogged my pores a bit, however, have very acne prone skin and I break out just typing the word ‘Acne’…whoops. There’s another pimple!…so I cannot say for sure it was the Trilogy Certified Organic Rosehip Oil that broke out my skin. I did not notice a significant decrease in old acne scars, but I did notice that my face seemed to glow a bit more. Perhaps it was the extra hydration for my skin…because even if you have oily skin, you can still have dehydrated oily skin. Ugh. Trust me. It can happen. The skin on my face felt more balanced be the end of the day and I didn’t feel like I was as much of an oily mess as I am used to being. Perhaps because my skin was getting essential fatty acids it didn’t feel the need to produce as much oil as it normally does.

What I really liked about Trilogy Certified Organic Rosehip Oil is that it comes in a small dark glass colored bottle. This helps keep light off the product which can cause the relatively short shelf life of rosehip oil to degrade even more. I also really like the little eye dropper that is in the cap. I can get a measured amount for each application and I don’t have to introduce any stray bacteria or other debris from my fingers and hands into the Trilogy bottle. This means I can extend the purity of the product and make sure that I don’t turn the oil rancid by the mere act of dispensing the product. It is recommended that most rosehip oil is kept refrigerated, but the documentation that came with this bottle didn’t mention that.

The Trilogy Certified Organic Rosehip Oil bottle holds 20 ml / .67 fl oz. that’s quite a lot when you only need a couple of drops for your face, so I started to add it to my regular lotion when I apply it at night and I started to massage some into my cuticles every night as well. Because I don’t want to run the risk of the oil turning rancid if I add it to a big bottle of lotion, I pump out some lotion into my hand and add a few drops of Trilogy Certified Organic Rosehip Oil to the product and mix it together for that one time usage. Basically I add it when I need it.

So far the results have been good. While I haven’t used it long enough to see marked improvement, I do like the fact that my skin feels softer and looks better overall. I also like the fact that I’m not adding any unnecessary chemicals or pesticides to my skin. Trilogy products contain 100% natural active ingredients. The rosehip oil is certified organic by Bio-Gro of New Zealand. This product contains no parabens, petrochemicals, PEGs, pesticides, synthetic colors or fragrances, GMOs , or harsh surfactants. Since the product is certified organic I can feel safe using it. If I ever do run out, and trust me a small bottle goes a long way, I’ll be sure to buy some more. This is a great addition to my daily beauty ritual.

You can purchase a 20ml bottle of Trilogy Certified Organic Rosehip Oil for $20 USD from beautorium.com
