iMakeupMirror Review - iPhone4 App

This is an independent review by Andrea M. "I was introduced to the iMakeupMirror application today for my iPhone4 and I have to say that I haven't found an app like this one since owning my iPhone. The iMakeupMirror illuminates the screen and enables me to see myself even in the darkest of clubs, bathrooms, or restaurants. As a busy writer who is involved in several local activities I find myself running from place to place when I'm not typing away. From the laptop, to the gym, to a meeting with clients; sometimes I literally pack a bag in the morning and live out of it all day.

This is where the iMakeupMirror has come in handy on numerous occasions. Instead of remembering to pack an extra mirror or compact in my bag that could potentially shatter or break and make a dusty mess in my purse, I simply switch to this app on my phone when a mirror isn't in sight and I need to check myself out. We all know how embarrassing it could be to meet a friend or client after lunch and realize that there's something in your teeth. With this application I don't have to worry about that ever again. I can take a look after every meal when I'm on the go.

I also travel a lot so the iMakeupMirror has been useful when I'm on the plane or waiting for a cab. If you've ever had to go from the airport to a meeting whether it's business or pleasure you want to look your best. The lines are often long for bathrooms, and your make-up bag is tucked away in your suitcase because of TSA regulations. This is when the iMakeupMirror saves the day. You can simply whip it out, do a touch up, smooth fly away hairs, or check your smile before you go. I know that I have had a powder compact burst in my bag a time or two and the experience is messy, costly and overall just a pain. This application completely eliminates the risk of that small tragedy happening.

Excessive clutter in my bag is another reason I love the iMakeupMirror. I like to carry a small bag whenever possible so having this on my phone eliminates the need to try to fit in a separate mirror. If I do carry a large bag and have to carry several items such as a phone, compact, lipstick, wallet, etc., they seem to get lost in the bottom. Having my phone do double duty in this department is great for eliminating another item to clutter the bottom of my bag.

I've also used the iMakeupMirror in a dark club and it worked wonderfully. I was able to reapply lip-gloss without smearing it everywhere and I didn't have to wait in line to use the bathroom mirror. Plus, I was able to carry a sexy little clutch because the only mirror I needed was already in my phone. On a scale from 1-10 on usefulness I'd give this app a 9. It's incredibly handy, and you don't necessarily look like you're looking in a mirror while you're using it (which I love). People assume you're just looking at your phone. If you haven't tried it, please do. Your face will thank you."

From BeautyDebutante - Red Hot Lips for Red Hot Months with Boots No. 7 Lip Glace, Wild Volume Lipstick

TC NOTE: This is a great article!

Click Here to signup for fabulous Daily BeautyDebutante Newsletter.

There are a lot of “rules” for makeup.
Do not use mascara longer than for 3 months
Do not blow on your brushes
Do not match your eyeshadow color to your shirt
Red lips are for winter….

Oh hey…wait. Red lips don’t have to be for winter (and for that matter you can match your eyeshadow to your shirt if you want)! In fact, I recently came across a few lip products from Boots that are perfect for the Summer and Fall months.

Now don’t freak out because I’m suggesting you wear red lips if you never ever wear red lips. I’m just putting it out there that the nude lip is great, but sometimes a red lip will knock your socks off. Think of it. For years women wore mostly red lips all year long. Why has red now been relegated to cold months? Can’t we all have a little fun in the sun and have saucy red lips to boot? Yes we can!

Here are some tips for keeping red lips looking bright and fresh even in the warmer months.

Create a perfect canvas. Make sure your skin looks beautiful. You can use foundation, tinted moisturizer or powder, just try not to have a too heavy/mask like appearance. Red lips will only intensify the heaviness of your foundation.

Blush sparingly or lightly. When wearing red lips, no matter the season, your blush should not fight for attention with your red lips. That means create a soft natural flush with a baby pink blush or a nude blush or sheer matte bronzer. You just want the suggestion of color in your cheeks and you want people to focus on your lips.

Keep the eyes minimal. A sheer wash of shell pink, taupe, apricot, champagne or golden tan is all you need for your eyes. Want something a little more dramatic without looking like a model from a 1980’s Robert Palmer Video?

Try a thin line of black liquid liner (Or gel or cake liner) and add a little wing on the end – such as Boots No7 Liquid Eye Liner – Black. This Marilyn Monroe-esque look is not only classic it helps frame your eyes and give them a sultry look. Winged liner can be tricky. Practice makes perfect!

image from www.pinksith.com

Lastly you want to finish your eye with either a thin coating of lengthening mascara

OK. So now that you have gotten the basics down here are 3 very different options from Boots that you can use to create a red lip that looks great for you.

image from www.us.boots.com

1. Boots No. 7 Wild Volume Lipstick in Forever Cherry. $9.99 This opaque long lasting lipstick promises to plum up your lips with Pea Extract and Senna Extract. I have no idea if it works because my lips are pretty full as it is…not bragging. just a fact…and honestly I think if you have really thin lips nothing will give you Angela Jolie like lips without the help of Plastic surgery. But back to the lipstick. This one is not for the faint of heart.

This almost electric cherry color lipstick smoothes on effortlessly and seems to fill in tiny lines in my lips…giving the appearance of my lips looking fuller.

Now as you can see this is a BRIGHT color so if you are a bit more timid with reds you can blot the lipstick after application and then apply a sheer gloss on top….for example like the one I’m going to feature next!

image from www.us.boots.com

2. Boots No7 Lip Glace – Cherry Kiss $7.49 The sheer shiny gloss is an amazing addition to satin or matte lipsticks. It will give your lips that extra shine and depth, thanks to the micro shimmers in the gloss. The gloss is not sticky and the shimmer isn’t gritty.

The clear and soft silicone tip allow for ease of application as well as keeping the product relatively clean. I love the long thin design of the tube and with the sturdy screw on cap and crimp-less tube design I don’t have to worry about it exploding in my purse or pocket.

The color I use is Cherry Kiss and it provides a very sheer layer of color. Of course you can wear this alone for a very sweet and demure hint of red lip, but I really prefer it over a lipstick. I apply a little dab in the center of my bottom lip and spread it out to create the look of a fuller lip and volume. With most non sticky glosses, this one fades after a few hours of wear, but it’s relatively easy to reapply…even without a mirror. However if you are looking for a gloss and go color then look no further than…

3. Boots Botanics Lip Gloss in Cherry. $7.99 This moisturizing shiny gloss has just enough pigment to wear alone for a sweet red lip. Packed with coconut extract to help moisturize your lips, this gloss wears well and never leaves that dreaded white ring or chapped lips in its wake. I like that it’s not sticky and lasts a decent amount of time before I have to reapply.

The soft doe foot applicator also makes application a snap. The cherry color is perfect for that just bitten look that so many people love to emulate (Thanks Twilight!) and it also is perfectly suitable for the warmer months. What’s best is that this gloss is an excellent introduction to red lips for those n00bs out there (That’s geek speak for newbies)!

It’s sheer enough to not overpower, but pigmented enough that people see a red lip. I think this is my favorite product of all three. I reach for this one time and time again.

So there you have it. Three ways to wear red lips in the heat and still be ravishing and you won’t break any rules!

Boots products can be purchased in the US at in person at Target Stores or online when you Shop drugstore.com’s Beauty and Fragrance Category!

Skincare Review: Lily Organics Skincare

by Joey on August 23, 2010

Lily Morgan has made farming (she’s a seventh-generation farmer!) and eco-friendly skincare her life’s work. Lily Organics, Morgan’s skincare company, was started in 1986 and is the only skincare company in the country that grows its own ingredients on a USDA-certified organic farm and makes its products fresh evert week on an on-site, FDA-inspected laboratory. Impressive, no? The entire line aims to be as unobtrusive on the environment as possible while providing customers with potent products that work without adding synthetic, chemical ingredients.

After reading about Lily Morgan, her farm, and her skincare line, I was eager to try her products. Lily Organics skincare products are separated into three categories: Sensitive Skin Type/Unscented, Dry/Mature Skin Type, and Normal/Oily Skin Type. I received three products from the Normal/Oily Skin Type, plus one additional product:

Seaweed Balancing Facial Cleanser – Lily Organics describes this cleanser as one that tones, detoxifies, balances, and cleanses the skin. It contains water, seaweed, almond oil soap, essential oils (lavender, rosemary, sage, tea tree), vitamin E, lemon juice, and citrus seed extract. I thought this was a nice, basic cleanser. It didn’t really remove my eye makeup, but it didn’t dry out my skin. However, it wasn’t terribly moisturizing either. I preferred to use this during the day, as my morning face wash. I will note, though, that this cleanser has an incredibly strong scent – it smells exactly like Vicks Vapor Rub! This retails for $20.79 for the 3.4 fl.oz bottle, $7.39 for the 1 oz. bottle, and $4.39 for the 1/2 oz. trial sized bottle.

Seaweed Balancing Facial Toner – The toner is described as helping to nourish and tone the skin. I actually found the toner to be more moisturizing than the facial cleanser, which was interesting. It softened my skin wonderfully, and helped clear off excess oils and grime without drying out my skin. My face glowed after I used this! This toner contains purified water, aloe, witch hazel, lily flower, glycerin, essential oils (sage and lavender) and a huge assortment of certified organic plants and flowers, including elderberries and chamomile. This retails for $16.79 for the 3.4 fl.oz bottle, $7.39 for the 1 oz. bottle, and $4.39 for the 1/2 oz. trial sized bottle.

Oil-Free Skin Conditioning Serum – This product was very interesting, I thought. Lily Organics describes it as a serum that conditions and firms the skin while healing and moisturizing, with the added benefit of stimulating cell proliferation. However, it wasn’t very moisturizing. In fact, it felt almost dry on the skin. I attribute this to the aloe vera gel base. The product feels sticky when it’s pumped out onto the hand, and it is cooling on the skin. The serum is absorbed or dries quickly, leaving a dry, matte texture to the skin. There’s none of that plump, soft feeling you get from a normal moisturizer. It does, though, keep my skin from peeling – and it makes a great base for my makeup since it sinks in so quickly. I’m enjoying this more than I expected to. This retails for $31.19 for the 2 fl.oz. bottle.

Organic Moisture Mist – This was actually my favorite product! Similar to MAC’s Fix +, this is a facial spray designed to deliver moisture to the skin and refresh makeup. I love its small, portable size (I tried the 1 oz. bottle) and I love the glow it gives me even more! This might possible replace Fix + for me, which is impressive! This product contains purfied water, vegetable glycerin, and a large assortment of certified organic plants and flowers (like chamomile, calendula, etc.). This retails for $17.79 for the 3.4 fl.oz bottle, and $5.79 for the 1 oz. bottle.

I’m pleased with everything I tried, and I look forward to trying other products from Lily Organics. What are you interested in trying?

From the DenimDebutante blog at http://denimdebutante.com

Put the fact that this is Kmart out of your mind, because some of these products are extremely intriguing visually.

The Fall 2010 Apparel collection is based on the latest trends, pulling from current styles in the fashion world like the Military-inspired Sgt. Pepper Jacket with shoulder embellishments, a Rocker Chic Bomber Jacket and Distressed Skinny Denim. Fall wardrobe basics like the skinny cargo pant complement bolder looks like the high-waisted peplum military jacket. Where Kmart really stands out is in the details. Fine stitching, fully lined jackets, and streamlined silhouettes.

From Denim Debutante - Sample Sale Alert for August 16

- James Jeans, another personal favorite of mine, will be on Rue La La today at 11am EST. It looks like they’ll only be having the women’s line… the guys, however, can snag something from the Monarchy sale that will be going on at the same time!

- Paige Premium Denim will be on Hautelook today at 11am EST. For most Paige styles, we recommend sizing up… and don’t shop for anything over $70! The discounts you can find online will beat that “bargain” anytime.

-Rock & Republic Jeans for Women will be popping up on Beyond the Rack starting at 11am EST. This sale is exclusively for their US members (sorry, Canada!), so keep that in mind while you’re shopping.

Any sales I missed? Leave a comment and I’ll update the list!

Love,
JP

Sothys Sun Care Progressive Sunny Glow Lotion, Sun-Sensitive Areas Care

by Krystal on August 16, 2010

Howdy again from Krystal at PolishGalore! I had the privilege of reviewing a unique line of Sun Care products from Sothys. Despite living in South Texas where it’s 100 degrees for weeks in August, I am not a tanned individual. Sothys has several beauty lines available but the two I am reviewing are the Progressive Sunny Glow Lotion and the Sun-sensitive Areas Care High Protection SPF 30.

Sothys began as a beauty institute in Paris, that features products created by a medical biologist. Their main focus is on results, which is something I have always been concerned with in regards to skin sun care. This line is called Soins Soleil Cellu-guard, which Sothys explains is a mixture of purified calophyllum oil and fruit polyphenois. Its dual tissue protection protects collagen fibers and the elastin of the skin and limits the inflammatory process. It also offers triple protection to the cell membranes, DNA and preserves proteins.

Sothys “Progressive Sunny Glow Lotion” ($40 for 5.07 FL. oz) says to apply daily on face and body to gradually build a natural looking tan. I actually used my very pale legs for this review, only putting the lotion on one leg.

The lotion is a creamy yellow colored lotion that has a very pleasant smell to it. I couldn’t place my finger on the smell, but it almost reminded me of fresh corn tortillas. The lotion went on smoothly without any irritation or unevenness. The instructions say to wash your hands after application which I did, but a friend who wanted to also try the lotion, did not and she said her cuticles were stained in the following days. I used the lotion every other day for a week, and after just one application, I was surprised at how much darker my lotioned leg looked against my non-lotioned leg. It took overnight for the lotion to darken my skin into a soft bronze tan without any streaks or missed spots (another fear of mine). That was part of the reason why I went every other day – the lotion did a lot in just one day. By the end of the week, I felt that my 4 applications was enough for me to feel tanned enough for shorts. I’m curious to see how long term use of the product (months) would affect skin tones.

Next is the Sun-Sensitive Areas Care – High Protection SPF 30 ($40 for 1.69 FL. oz). This is a hypoallergenic and fragrance free lotion that states it will protect from photo-aging during intense sunlight exposure.

I decided to use this on the backs of my hands and forearms since those are the areas that receive the most sun and least protection for me. The lotion was quite thick and creamy and took a few minutes to rub into my skin. It wasn’t very greasy feeling, but did have some shimmer in it that left my hands and arms sparkly.

While this is a salon brand that is more expensive than drug store products of the same claims, I highly recommend it if you want great results: the Progressive Sunny Glow Lotion is worth the money. As for the Sun-Sensitive Areas Care – High Protection SPF 30, it was definitely the thickest sunscreen I’ve ever used, and since I’m only using it on the backs of my hands (and probably my face), the bottle may last the whole summer. I would like to take photo-aging pictures of my hands and face and be able to compare before spending so much on a sunscreen, but my first impression was that this is worth the money.

Order Sothys Soins De Soleil Progressive Sunny Glow Lotion online, or use their Find-A-Salon feature to locate a salon near you that carries Sothys.

Beecology All Natural Peppermint Body Wash Review

This is from BeautyDebutante supported by iMakeupMirror's iPhone4 app. For more or to order click here and found lots of exciting information on Fashion Beauty.

Beecology (how cute is that name?) is a line of all-natural products. But they go further than that. Beecology also has a sister organization, SweetYear.org that enables Beecology to donate 10% of all of their net profits to charity. Additionally, by visiting SweetYear.org you can help designate where the donations go!

Beecology Peppermint Body WashThe first product I tried from Beecology was their Peppermint Body Wash. It is definitely very minty. It’s got a scent that is kind of herbal mint. At first I didn’t like it, but it’s one of those scents that really grows on you. The texture is very slippery and liquidy – okay, it feels kind of like lube. I would recommend using a loofah, or you’ll have a tough time not using handfuls of it every time you shower (and that’s not very ecological is it?). It lathers, but not in that traditional super foamy kind of way. After rinsing you definitely get that squeaky clean feeling. I don’t know how necessarily moisturizing it is, but it’s still kinda fun and cool (literally, the peppermint gives a cooling effect). Oh yes. About that. The cooling effect. Um, I feel this needs to be said delicately so try to stay with me. Certain parts of the body don’t like to be pepperminty and cool. In fact, using this body wash on those “certain parts” of the body may result to a feeling akin to straddling an iceberg, therefore it is not recommended. Understood? Good. I don’t want to elaborate any more. ;)

Beecology all natural body wash is available in Grapefruit & Lemongrass or Wake Up America Peppermint for $7.99, available at Beecology.com.
